requirements for Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) for existing YA registered teachers
Open to yoga teachers and yoga teachers in training, health professionals such as CSWs, OTs, PTs, RNs, as well as caregivers and classroom teachers with some yoga experience. Your certification of completion will prepare you to teach authentic yoga as a specialty class for individuals finding it challenging to get up and down from the floor. This does not always have to be a student with physical challenges – it could be a practice for office workers in their suits, those in an airport lounge, or similar circumstance where getting on the floor is not desired. You will gain the technical knowledge of each asana along with benefits, contraindications and modifications for each asana.
Certificate will be granted upon successfully teaching and demonstrating knowledge (verbal and practical) proficiency at the conclusion of the program. This program can count towards continuing education credits (12 contact hours) required for maintenance of your Yoga Alliance registration (where appropriate by individual). Get students moving in a safe, therapeutic, and blissful way. Curriculum includes asana, pranayama (breath work), alignment principals, relaxation and basic meditation techniques/objectives. Are you discovering that Yoga has much more to offer than poses? Yoga provides tools for living every day. Yoga teaches us how to make the most evolutionary choices for the path of our soul at each crossroad we encounter. These tools - these yogic philosophies can be found in yogic texts, one of the most popular is The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
In this workshop we will review the sutras (sutra translates to "thread" in Sanskrit, a sacred language of yoga.) We will review the Sutras in English and Sanskrit. It is suggested that you acquire the book so that you can follow along most easily. You may also want to read all or some of the text prior to the session and bring your questions. Don't worry if you don't understand some of what you read. Our group discussion will address your questions. You will use this book often along your yogic path - so the purchase is a wise investment, and of course you could purchase it used or borrow it from a local library.
To build the wonderfully uplifting vibration that comes from this practice, we will work straight through. You may enjoy plenty of fresh water and light, easily digestible snacks. Consider this when planning your meals for the day. If you have attended this practice with DorothyO in the past, you may attend it again at no additional cost, though you will have to bring your book and simply register with me via email. Six YA-approved CEUs available.
